I've been watching Catty's new tooth coming in with growing concern. It didn't look normal at all - it was a sharp POINT, growing in like a shark tooth!! WTH!?!?!
So today I took Catty into the dentist's office, and they all crowded around and agreed it looked very strange. The dentist said it looked like a "peg tooth", which is like a skinny little deformed tooth, but he'd never seen one in front before, so they decided to take X-rays.
My heart fell onto the floor and I started to freak out when I saw the X-rays appear on the computer monitor.
What the heck was THAT??? The techs called in the dentist, and he started to give me the bad news. Catty's tooth was going to need a lot of work, but it couldn't be fixed for a couple years yet, not until it had grown in all the way. So in the meanwhile, she's gotta look like a snaggle-toothed vampire shark or something. They could crown it in a couple years, and then around 12 yrs old, she could have a porcelain tooth sculpted to go over it.
I was so crushed! Poor Catty! Her beautiful smile - GONE!!! WAHHH!!!!
Then the dentist peered a little closer at the X-ray. He said, "Wait a minute - let's get another set of X-rays, but shoot higher up this time."
We waited, and they came back with this:
I didn't even want to look at the screen, but the dentist said, "No, this is GOOD news! Come here and see!"
It turns out she has perfectly normal adult teeth, and perfectly normal baby teeth - but an EXTRA TOOTH wedged in between them!!! Which he pulled out today, so the adult teeth up top don't get pushed any more out of alignment by having that mystery third tooth crammed in there with them.
How crazy is that?!?! And how ugly would that tooth have been for the front of her smile?? Yikes!!
Well now we know why Catty lost a tooth at such a young age - she had THREE front teeth competing for space in there! WEIRD!!!!
Catty's in bed sleeping off the numb-face meds now, and I have to think of another tooth fairy gift to get her for tonight! Poor kid - she's really not happy about having a fat lipped-face that she can't feel! I gotta think of a something even more special than the "first tooth" gift, because how often do you lose an EXTRA tooth?!? Yikes!
