Cabin fever due to 114 degree days in the desert was driving me insane!! Decide to book a quicky trip to Disneyland, since we have a long trip to Hawaii coming up next week.
And we're off!!
90 minutes later, we're in L.A.! WOOT!
We check in and briefly debate going to bed - NAHHHHH!!! We hit the monorail for the nighttime experience.
It takes us all of 30 seconds to find a gift shop (I really only wanted a MAP, which of course they didn't have ;oP)
Then we stood in line for a ride... oh about 10 minutes before the kids started fussing they were bored and didn't want to stand in line anymore. So we ditched the line and bought more souvenirs.
Then what? Catty has an enormous blister on her foot, even after I told her to make sure she brought her most comfortable shoes. This does not bode well for tomorrow. *sigh*
Next morning we return, and Catty has 2 band-aids over her blister, but they wear off pretty quickly, and I have to carry her everywhere. (the monorail does not drop us near any stroller rental places, dangit!) We try standing in a line for a ride, but again, FAIL. The 2 and 4 yr old do not want to stand sandwiched body to body waiting 15-20 minutes for a ride. I kinda see their point. Luckily I noticed the merry-go-round did not have a line.
So far so good - no, wait, Miss SulkyPants is mad that another girl cut her off from riding the pink and purple pony she wanted.
Mom risks getting Tasered by the Disney police and stays on the ride for a second go round so her little girl can ride the pink and purple pony.
Every other ride has lines, and I have a daughter who can't walk very well, so we call it a day. Grand total of rides = one, done twice. Head for the monorail, and son complains he doesn't want to walk anymore either. Mom adopts the position that will serve for much of the time to follow - one monkey on the shoulders, and one on the hip. People stopped to laugh and point. Guess it's a good thing I don't have a third kid, huh? Eh, I still have a hip free, LOL...
We had tons of fun outside of the actual Disneyland. I think they were just kinda young for the actual park, but there was still plenty of stuff to do. Montage of pics to follow...
Catty doing the grownup water slide on her own, over and over. She was so cute!
This poolside area was the site of one of my very worst experiences as a mom.
Devin and I were sitting in the kiddy pool (just a 1 ft deep circle) sipping slushees and watching Catty do the slide again and again. Eventually Catty says she wants to do the grownup pool, and Devin says he does too. I say OK, and go to put our drinks in the shade so they won't melt. I turn around, and Catty has gone back to the water slide again, so I head to the grownup pool to find Devin.
I cannot possibly find words for what I felt when I saw the top of his white hair bobbing in the deep end, and him kicking and flailing underwater. I have never run so fast in my life!! I jumped in there and snatched him up and pulled him to safety. As I reached the side of the pool with him, the lifeguard comes running up and says, "Is he ok?" I couldn't even answer her. I just glared at her.
Luckily Devin was fine, but OMG... I spent the rest of the afternoon holding him extra close and trying to stop the "what ifs" from playing in my head!!
That night we went to a movie theater and watched Ice Age 3 (great fun!!) and then tucked in.
Next morning I was busy packing up in our room, when I noticed the kids were up to something.
They were hiding in the closet with a tissue box, faking sneezes and faking blowing their noses, until every tissue in the box was gone, LOL!!!
Back to the airport, time for a quick snack
Time for a quick Disney light saber fight
And then it's back to St George for us! All done, in about 48 hours flat!
Thanks for looking! Next up, we're leaving for Hawaii next week - but then we'll be gone for 2 1/2 weeks! The freakin' desert is a terrible place to live in the summer - YOU try planning activities with kids around 110+ degree days! ;oP
