So tonight we got home from a fun dinner at Red Robin restaurant, and the kids both got helium balloons to bring home, but Devin, as always, has managed to pop his before we even make it halfway home. As I'm pulling into the driveway, I'm teasing Catty, reaching into the back seat and threatening to pop her balloon. At first she's laughing and saying "Again! Again!" but then as I stop the car, she gets serious and says, "No! Mommy DON'T really pop it! I want to give it to Daddy!" I let her out of her car seat, and she runs out of the garage and into the driveway, where she releases her pink balloon up into the darkening sunset, shouting, "Here Daddy! Here is a balloon for you! It is pink, my favorite color! I love you, daddy!"

Well I just couldn't stop the tears. As we all went inside, both kids watched me just start bawling, and I swear this is only the second time Devin has ever seen me cry. It doesn't happen often. Devin just melted my heart; his eyes got all big and he said "Hugs, mommy! Hugs!" And he wrapped himself around my leg and hung on tight. Then Catty wrapped herself around my other leg, and I giggled through my tears as I waddled over to the couch with a kid clinging to each leg.

Then Devin said, "No shoes!" and Catty echoed, "Yeah, no shoes in the house!" So together they untied and pulled off my shoes. Then Devin shouts, "Oh no! HOLE!!" And they both stared at a hole in my sock like it was the biggest catastrophe ever. Devin sprints for the junk drawer, shouting, "TAPE! TAPE!" and I couldn't help but laugh as the 2 and 4 year old worked together to save the day. These kids are just too freakin' funny!!!

Don't mind my grubby, holy socks that don't fit right - they used to be Don's. I still wear a lot of his stuff. Lookit the two monkeys working together like the Wonderpets - Teamwork! Teamwork!

Catty inspected the patch job and announced that we needed better tape. Apparently packing tape isn't strong enough to repair sock holes - we need... DUCT TAPE!!

Teamwork! Teamwork!!

Now Devin donates his binky to the cause, to help my ailing sock to feel better. By this time I was crying all over again, but with laughter - Catty was unspooling so much tape to save my sock that she was all the way in the next room! ROFL!!

Devin donates a second binky...

But then changes his mind when he realizes that means he won't have one anymore.

That's ok, one look at that sweet face and all is forgiven, LOL...

Catty runs into the kitchen and uses a stool to climb up to where the scissors are kept, and dashes back to clip the ends of her handiwork.

TA-DAHHHHHH!!!! ALL BETTER, MOMMY!!!

Well would ya lookit that. The hole in my sock is completely patched, and I am all ready for a nice long hike tomorrow! WOOT!

THIS is why we have kids!!! And this is why I am limping around the house with a sock swaddled with 60 feet of duct tape and a binky stuck to it, and I can't stop smiling :o)
